NDIS Plan Management vs Support Coordination

NDIS plan management and support coordination are not the same. Here is a summary of the main differences.

We often find that there's some confusion around the differences between NDIS Support Coordination and NDIS Plan Management. Although they're similar, they are separate services, and you'll need both to properly implement your NDIS plan.

Here's a closer look at both NDIS Support Coordination and NDIS Plan Management, and the key differences between the services.

NDIS Plan Management

Plan Management is how you pay for your NDIS services. In other words, it's how you take care of the financial administration and any other financial aspects associated with your NDIS plan. Plan Management helps you:

  • Decide how you want to pay for services

  • Pay invoices

  • Track your spending

  • Provide financial reports

To help you with your NDIS Plan Management, you'll be allocated a Plan Manager. Your Plan Manager can submit your invoices for you and send you spending statements so you can track what you're spending.

NDIS Support Coordination

While Plan Management helps you with the financial side of things, NDIS Support Coordination is how you put the plan itself into action. It's how you find the right service providers for your individual needs.

Your NDIS Support Coordinator can help you:

  • Understand your particular needs

  • Find service providers who can help you

  • Take back control of your own life by making informed choices

Support Coordination isn't available to everyone, and you may not be offered it if you have other people in your life who can help you organize your plan. Eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Summary Of the Key Differences

NDIS Plan Management is available to everyone because it's how you pay for your NDIS services and organize your invoices. NDIS Support Coordination, on the other hand, is generally only offered if you have particularly complex needs or there's no one else to help you manage your support needs.

What's important to remember is that they're separate services – your plan manager can answer any questions you might have.
