Types of NDIS Reviews

Reviews of your NDIS plan are a standard practice to ensure that your plan meets your needs, no matter how your needs may change over the years.

While they are a standard procedure, NDIS reviews can feel daunting and often be confusing. Here at Bright Plan Management we want to walk you through the types of reviews you may come across on your NDIS journey. We’ve outlined them below.

Types of NDIS Review

Internal Review

An internal review occurs when you believe the NDIA’s decision about your plan is incorrect. This may pertain to not receiving the funding you believe you require or your NDIS application not being accepted.

The NDIA will require more information supporting your belief and required level of support in order to reassess your plan or application. An internal review is conducted by the NDIA and may take a few months to complete.

External Review

An external review is conducted by an external body, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT), if you do not agree with the results of the internal review.

To request an external review, you must apply to the AAT within 28 days of receiving the decision of the internal review. The AAT will review the decision based on the evidence and supporting information you already supplied.

The decision of the AAT is final.

Unscheduled Plan Review

An unscheduled plan review is exactly what it sounds like - a plan review that isn’t scheduled!

Unscheduled plan reviews occur when your circumstances have changed and in turn your level of support or funding may need to change. If your circumstances change, you are legally required to inform the NDIA.

The NDIA will review your request and if your request is approved they will perform a plan review.

Scheduled Plan Review

Scheduled plan reviews are the most common type of reviews. They are held every 12 or 24 months depending on your circumstances, and are scheduled for the end of your plan period. It’s an opportunity to raise any concerns you may have and set new goals for the upcoming year.

Our team is here to help iron out any confusion you may have around plan reviews, and step you through the process of requesting reviews. Reach out today for a chat.
